Many people have asked us what the original St. Raphaels church looked like. We have a fine painting by Glengarry artist Stuart McCormick to show the exterior and a black and white photo of the interior but lack one in colour. We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has such a photo and would allow us to make a copy.
Memorial Plaques
Anyone who has had the opportunity to visit the Ruins will have admired the list of donors that are mounted on the north wall. Many of the names are those of the early families of the area or were added as a memorial tribute to a friend or relative who has died. If you are interested in having a name added to a plaque, at a cost of $1000, please be in touch by email any member of the executive or Diana Sturkenboom at 613-347-2572.
The Ruins Today
David Anderson
The final stabilization work is complete and the survival of this place for our people is assured. In all, $1,5000,000 was expended on the finely-engineered project. The proceeds of the annual Msgr. D. B. McDougald Tartan Golf Tournament held on the Thursday prior to the Glengarry Highland Games, as well as concerts, memorial plaque donations and visitor contributions, allow for our on-going expenses such as taxes and insurance. We hope to start a contingency fund to be prepared for future maintenance of the walls. For Glengarrians far and near, and indeed, for all visitors, the great stone walls of St. Raphaels will continue to remind and inspire.
